Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you source your leather from?
We proudly source our hides from a network of trusted tanneries across the United States. We are steadfast in our belief in supporting American businesses and upholding the superior craftsmanship and ethical standards that come with domestically sourced products.
What is full-grain leather?
Full-grain leather is the highest quality and most durable type of leather. It is made from the top layer of the hide and retains the natural grain and imperfections, such as scars and blemishes. Here's what makes full-grain leather unique:
Key Features of Full-Grain Leather:
- Natural Grain: It retains the hide's natural surface, which develops a beautiful patina over time.
- Durability: Because it includes the strongest part of the hide, it is resistant to wear and tear.
- Breathability: The natural pores in the leather allow it to breathe, making it more comfortable for items that are worn.
- Appearance: It often has a rich, textured look, with visible natural markings that give it character and uniqueness.
- Aging Gracefully: It improves over time, gaining a distinct sheen or patina with use.
How does full-grain leather compare to other types of leathers?
- Top-Grain Leather: Similar but sanded down to remove imperfections, making it less durable but smoother.
- Genuine Leather: Lower quality; it is made from the layers of the hide that remain after the top grain is split off.
- Bonded Leather: Made from leather scraps and fibers bonded together; the lowest quality.
Is every leather hide identical?
Each leather hide is unique, coming from a living animal with its own distinct characteristics. Just as wood stain can appear differently on two pieces of wood due to natural variations, leather hides may take the tanning process differently, resulting in slight differences in color and texture. These variations are a testament to the natural origin of the material, making each product truly one-of-a-kind and rich with character. If you are not satisfied with the variations in the product you received, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us—we’re here to ensure you’re happy with your purchase.
